Apr. 10 – Umbria seen through the lens of one of the most famous photographers in the world: Steve McCurry, who embarked in “a journey of exploration that led to the discovery dazzling jewels.” Among the many photographs taken by the internationally renowned photographer, 100 have been selected to represent the “green heart” of Italy around the world. The exhibition, which is currently held at the Brera Pinacoteca, is divided into five light panels, with two images on each side, placed on a light clear wooden structure. The 100 photographs represent significant places and atmospheres of Umbria, a real photo book that not only displays the skills of the photographer, but also shows the world Umbria’s natural. Steve McCurry has interpreted the region in his own way, touring it for months of intense work that produced 1500 photos. “The photos – says the photographer – are only the tip of the iceberg: I could go back to Umbria thousands of times, and every time photograph without repeating.” Meanwhile, the President of the Region, Catiuscia Marini, has invited the artist to participate in the Festa dei Ceri in Gubbio, that McCurry is yet to witness – even though he dedicated several shots to the Ceri Mezzani and Piccoli fairs. “Gubbio – said McCurry – is amazing, and the whirlwind is something fascinating, very difficult to capture on camera. In Umbria – he added – there is a sense of the past, there is beauty, there is history and tradition. But its main feature is its depth.”
