Apr. 11 – London is currently hosting an important world congress on bone marrow transplantation, and the San Carlo hospital in Potenza is participating with a major scientific work produced by: the Unit of Hematology and bone marrow transplantation (director: Michael Pizzuti), the Laboratory of Virology and Molecular Biology (responsible: Teresa Pierri), and the Transfusion Medicine unit (responsible: Clelia Musto). The study concerns the use of the drug valganciclovir for cytomegalovirus infections, and it’s a retrospective analysis over five years on a homogeneous sample of 121 patients treated at a single center after an autogenous or allogeneic bone marrow transplant. Cytomegalovirus is one of the major diseases related to hematopoietic stem cells transplants. Next week, on April 20-21, the team will head to the international meeting at the American College of Rheumatology, the largest scientific society in the discipline. Among the speaker at the Clinical Symposium, there will also be the head of San Carlo, Ignazio Olivieri, also director of the regional department of Rheumatology. He will speak, together with Professor Govoni of the University of Ferrara, on: “From Spondylarthropathy to Spondyloarthritisis: diagnosis, classification and treatment.”
