Apr. 15 – Popi Fabrizio is a former music industry executive and brother of Maurizio Fabrizio, composer of hundreds of pop songs including “Almeno tu nell’universo” and “I Migliori Anni della Nostra Vita”). During his musical career, he discovered and launched artists such as Giorgia, Biagio Antonacci for Polygram (now Universal Music) and later for BMG (now Sony Music). Yet, since 2008, he moved permanently to Kenya (living between Chakama, Malindi and Nairobi), where he started “Chakama in the heart”, a special volunteer program supported by the non-profit organization Karibu Onlus. The program, founded by Popi Fabrizio with the Karibu Chakama Project, aims to help the Kenyan village of Chakama (40 km from Malindi) to achieve food, economic, educational and commercial self-sufficiency. The whole ordeal will involve a large farm owned by Karibu Chakama Project, in which fields will be cultivated and animals bred. The village already has electricity and running water, a kindergarten and already produces aloe vera, but there is still a lot to be done. “In Kenya, I learned what freedom, patience, respect, love and democracy are – said Fabrizio Popi – I saw our facilities grow, the children go to school, the work in the fields double… I discovered a beautiful, loving and caring segment of Italian youth volunteering there.”
