Apr. 23 – The First European Congress of Robotic Abdominal Surgery, the first European symposium of digestive and HPB robotic surgery, held in Paris, confirmed the international role played by the Robotic Surgery of Grosseto, in this case the abdominal branch. Dr. Andrea Coratti was representing the Robotic Abdominal Surgery of the pancreas and liver at a European level; director of the surgical hospital in Grosseto and head of the International School of Robotic Surgery, Coratti is one of the major experts in robotics and minimally invasive surgery. The report and video presentations on liver and pancreas interventions were highly appreciated by the scientific audience, which included surgeons from France, Italy, the UK, Greece and Israel. The conference presentations will be published in the British Journal of Surgery. The Paris meeting, sponsored by Daniel Azoulay, Professor of Surgery at the Hospital Foundation “Henry Mondor” in Paris, also saw the parties agree to implement a European computerized register where to merge the data of all patients undergoing robotic surgery, in order to have a solid database for future research projects. It is also important that this meeting take place in France, as the country had always objected to this type of surgery in the past. Finally, prof. Azoulay showed great interest and appreciation for the teaching activities carried out by the School of Grosseto, so rumor has it that he might be visiting professor in future years.
