Apr. 30 – The World Council of Pan-Africanism, following a report from the Italian section of the Co.mo.pa, has awarded Fiorella Mannoia the title of Knight of the Order of the World Council of Pan-Africanism. “For her admirable contribution to the dissemination of African continent knowledge at the international level thanks to her reputation, music and personal commitment towards the enhancement of the figure of President Thomas Sankara, the famous Pan-Africanist, thanks to her numerous concerts around the world. Her commitment to children and women deserves our respect and admiration for someone who has given so much of her heart to the African continent,” reads a citation. The award was handed over by the President ofCo.Mo.Pa., Aguessy Honorat, in the state of Ouidah in Benin, during the World Congress of Co.mo.pa. The title of Knight of the World Council of Pan-Africanism has been assigned in the past to figures such as Kofi Annan, Boutros Boutros-Ghali and Nelson Mandela, and is usually reserved for heads of state and African officials. “It is an honor for me to receive this award – says Fiorella Mannoia – It comes as the confirmation that Thomas Sankara was right: ideas cannot be killed, they pass from mouth to mouth, crossing borders and arrive in a country so far away from Africa and disclosed by a singer with red hair.”
