May 9 – The members of the Exposed Asbestos Sicily (EAS) association, President Turi Occhipinti and Councilman Gaetano Scollo, are in Morocco these days to participate in the “Salon international du Livre et des Arts de Tanger,” meeting with the delegate the Ministry of Culture of Tangier, Abdelaziz El Idrissi. Silvia Coarelli, director of the Fondation Mediterraneenne “Elisa Chimenti” of Tangier, Claudia Puglisi and Silvia Scuderi from “La Compagnia Prese Fuoco” were also present. The meeting served to discuss future strategies to initiate awareness and information campaigns in Morocco on heavy risks faced by workers exposed to asbestos. The first objective is to launch the campaign just outside the town of Tangier, and the ministerial delegate showed much interest in the matter by proposing a meeting between representatives of the ‘”Litoral Mediterraneen Heritage Association”, the “Commision technique de Tanger Ordre des architectes”, the Fondation Mediterraneenne “Elisa Chimenti,” EAS and La Compagnia Prese Fuoco to be held tomorrow, Friday, May 10, at the palace of Italian institutions of Tangier. “Thanks to the generosity shown by the delegate of the Ministry of Culture – says Occhipinti – we will have the opportunity to implement information and awareness campaigns about the issues that deserve to be scrutinized with due care. Albeit the local population not being familiar with the issue, the local institutions showed a great capacity to receive new information and adapt consequently to implement monitoring programs.” At the “Salon de Tanger”, EAS screened the documentary “Lamiantu” that received great appreciation from the audience for their attention and professionalism with which such important topics were reported.
