May 14 – A team of the European Civil Protection Mechanism, sent from Brussels, just arrived in Amman, Jordan, to assess the real health needs associated with the current management situation of Syrian refugees. The group, consisting of four European experts and headed by an official from the Italian Civil Protection Department, will remain in Jordan for five days. Their aim is to collect, in liaison with the international community in loco and local authorities, relevant information on the basis of which they will evaluate the possibility of installing a European medical center to meet the needs of the refugee camps. The Jordanian authorities point out, in fact, the extreme difficulties in providing adequate health care to the Syrian population fleeing from the war, and settling in camps set up on the border with Syria.
