July 22 – The 3-day visit in Sicily of the Secretary of the Treasury of Kenya, Henry Rotich, the Director of Economic Affairs, Justus Nyamunga Benjamin, positively concluded today. Organized by ANCE Sicilia (Regional College of Builders) and Confindustria Sicilia, the aim of the meeting was to initiate partnerships in infrastructure and productive investments in East Africa. In November 2013, a delegation of enterprises of the two associations will visit Kenya to check the feasibility of certain works indicated by the minister, who will return to Sicily at the beginning of 2014 to define the bases of agreement. The Kenya Delegation, after having had direct meetings with 51 companies, has been able to evaluate and appreciate the quality and technology of the Sicilian infrastructure. In the environmental sector, for example, the Minister Rotich and the Director Nyamunga expressed strong interest in the Acqua dei Corsari Palermo water treatment plant. The Minister also noted that in Kenya there is a high demand for these facilities. Similarly, the delegation was very impressed by the technology used in the Siculiana waste treatment system with no emissions and which produces heat and electricity, as well as by leachate, treated water for industrial use. The technologies developed by the local research unit will be transferred to Kenya with appropriate adjustments, for example an application of this model will be used to produce heat and power while composting the organic fraction.
