Aug. 9 – Stefano Bolognini, president of the Italian Psychoanalysis Society, was elected president of the International Psychoanalysis Society, founded in Nuremberg in March 1919 by Sigmund Freud. His mandate will last until 2017 and officially began with thhe Congress in Prague. “This mandate – says Bolognini – confirms the international community’s recognition of Italy’s analysis community. Within Freud’s orthodox approach, Italian analysists demonstrated creaetivity and innovation.” Bolognini stringly believes in the value of the treatment in response to mental illnesses and as an invitation to deep thought, necessary in a society dominated by a bi-dimensional culture that flattens and mortifies subjective authenticity. For his new international mandate, the president suggest to open up the society, confront it with the real work, promote research ( empirical, conceptual and clinical), and the spread of different ideas, facilitate exchanges and networking activities through the internet. These activities are aimed at favoring and strengthening the feeling of belonging in a community. Doctor and psychiatrist, Stefano Bolognini was president of the Italian Psychoanalysis Society from 2009 to 2012.
