Aug. 13 – From Aug. 28 to Sept. 1, the global publishing sector will come together in Beijing: Italy eill also be present with a stand organized by ICE Agency and AIE for the Beijing International Book Fair, at its 20th edition held in the China International Exhibition Center. “The fair is the main event for intellectual property rights in the Asian area. China represents a market with great potential for the commerce of intellectual property rights. It is also characterized by an increasing level of openness towards foreign cultures. This, combined with a growing purchasing power, leads to a favorable situation for all,” says ICE in a note. In China, ICE has been organizing Ialy’s participation in the event since 2006, year in which Italian rights sales began rising in the region, and have been growing steadily to the extent that China is today considered a significant area. For children’s books, China is today the second largest market, grasping 21% of Italian sales (in 2007, it only captured 14%). “Given China’s interest for Italy and Italian products, says ICE, the market has become an important stop for Italian editors and publishing houses.”
