Oct. 21 – Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong are the five Chinese cities that Francesco Baccini will touch with the best of Italy’s songwriting tradition. Baccini, a songwriter of the Genoese school, held yesterday a press conference in Beijing to present his upcoming tour, realized in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institutes, the consulate in Guangzhou and Shenzhen University. In the Chinese capital, Cui Jian, the “father” of Chinese rock, presented the Italian artist, and announced that his first concert is scheduled for Wednesday, October 23 at the Institute of Italian Culture “San Li Tun” in Beijing. A number of Italian language students have been invited to participate in a contest that will see them translate the musical pieces. The event will thus constitute a meeting point between Chinese and Italian music. Baccini has already completed a concert in Italy during the Sanremo Music Festical, when the Genoese singer-songwriter was awarded the “Premio Tenco” – awarded by the Club Tenco. Baccini also played alongside Cui Jian in a brand new version of the Italian-Chinese song written by the latter, which later became the unofficial anthem of the Tiananmen Square uprising. The song “Nothing to My Name” was adapted into Italian by Baccini and will be included in the new album of “Nomi e Cognomi 2” (currently in progress) with the title “Anonimo student cinese,” as is remembered the student who challenged the army tanks.
