Dec. 16 – After a stop in China, the Sant’Anna School of Pisa is heading to Egypt. After training the Chinese police who will be engaging in UN peacekeeping missions, the institute has now arrived in Cairo, where it kicked off the course for African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom) officials. The class is open to 10.000 African soldiers, 200 police officers and 300 civilians; and was entrusted with the task of helping Somalia in the transition phase that will lead to a “sustainable peace.” At the request of the African Union, the Sant’Anna School will collaborate in the training of officials, thus giving further recognition to Andrea de Guttry, professor of international law of the Scuola Sant’Anna, and his International training program for conflict management, born in 1995. “The Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna – says de Guttry – was chosen for this delicate and important task not only because of its twenty-year experience in higher education courses for international mission staff working in high risk areas, but also because it conducted in-depth research on Somalia and is strongly committed to restoring peace there. Not surprisingly, the next issue of the magazine ‘Itpcm International Commentary,’ edited by the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, will be devoted entirely to the situation in Somalia and its national reconciliation prospects.”
