Jan. 9 – Italian pet food delicacies saw the doors to the US open for their new champion: SanyPet. The Italian company specialized in dietetic, organic and maintenance foods for dogs and cats scored a feat never achieved before by European producers. SanyPet received an authorization from the US Department of Agriculture to export its dry foods to the United States. The official go-ahead was granted to the Bagnoli di Sopra (Padua) based company after a team of American veterinarians came to Italy in order to sift through the SanyPet’s production lines. All European manufacturer had previously failed to get the coveted permission to export to the US because of the basic requirements set up in the US, above all the absence of cross contamination with unauthorized raw materials or risk countries. The US pet food market is worth an estimated $21 billion with an average expenditure of $239 for dogs and $203 for cats. The hygiene and quality management procedures applied in SanyPet are particularly severe, thus contributing to the favorable opinion by USDA inspectors. The authorization procedure involved the Italian health authorities as well, and ultimately saw SanyPet adopt a series of changes to quality control processes to ensure compatibility with US models and standards, advanced and strict. “This is an important step for our company and we are proud of the work we are carrying out. Our primary objective is to ensure the welfare of animals, starting by meeting their dietary need. Our company has a turnover in Italy of approximately €18 million and has already opened a branch in Florida, FORZA10 Usa Corp, which will have the task of creating a commercial sales network,” says Massimo Parise, CEO of SanyPet.
