Jan. 14 – A first important step towards cooperation between Italy and Mexico in the fields of geothermal energy and smart grids is represented by the Memorandum of Understanding signed yesterday between Enel and the Institute de Investigaciones Eléctricas, the Mexican authority for the electricity sector. The agreement was signed in the Presidential Palace in Mexico City by Fulvio Conti, CEO of Enel, and José Luis Fernández Zayas, Executive Director of the Instituto de Investigaciones Eléctricas, in the presence of Prime Minister Enrico Letta, and the Mexican president, Enrique Peña Nieto, as part of bilateral government summit. With this agreement, the two sides will exchange information and experience in the areas of smart grids and geothermal energy generation through the implementation of pilot projects, training programs and transfer of technology in their respective areas of interest. “We are very pleased with this agreement – said Fulvio Conti – thanks to which we will share with the Mexican government our expertise in the field.” The goal for the Mexican government is to carry out projects for the development of smart grids throughout the country, improving the efficiency and quality of services. In addition, the diversification of energy sources is a key factor for the strengthening of supply security.
