Feb. 3 – Last week, the new Enel GP Xepultul II photovoltaic complex was inaugurated. The plant will bring electricity in three rural villages in Guatemala, also called “the land of eternal spring.” The photovoltaic panels were installed between January 17 and 24, by ingenieras solares formed as part of the partnership between Enel Green Power and Barefoot College. These panels will provide electricity 12 comunidades of the three areas covered by the project (four per village): meeting places, schools, City Hall, and the local temple or church. This is just the latest successful project within the EGP-Barefoot College collaboration, which provides for the electrification of rural villages in Guatemala, Peru, Chile, El Salvador and Colombia. The partnership has already led to the installation of 1,030 solar panels (725 in Peru and Chile, 305 in Guatemala and El Salvador) that address the electricity needs of more than 2,000 families.
