(Feb. 7) – The agricultural excellence made in Italy lands in Morocco. From June 5th to 7th, in fact, Medinit Agro will make its debut in Casablanca, in the event organized by Medinit Ltd., a company owned by VeronaFiere. The announcement of the new exhibition was given during the 111th Fieragricola (scheduled at Veronafiere until Sunday), on the occasion of the visit of Mohamed El Guerrouj , director of the Governmental Office under the Ministry of Agriculture of Morocco, who met the institutional representatives of the Fair, the City of Verona, Regione Veneto, Banco Popolare, Coldiretti , CIA and Confagricoltura. “With its historic know-how in the agri-food sector, thanks to events such as Fieragricola Vinitaly, Eurocarne, SIAB and Enolitech,” said Ettore Riello, President of Veronafiere, “Veronferie will organize a trade fair in Morocco, for which Italy is third largest trading partner with 2 billion euros of interchange”. A strategic initiative, given that agriculture in Morocco accounts for 19% of the GDP, employs 40% of the active population, with crops that cover 7.8 million hectares, of which 1.6 irrigated for more than one and a half million of small and medium-sized farms”. “A fair like Medinit Agro represents an absolute novelty in the country,” said El Guerrouj, “and there are many business opportunities for Italian companies. Morocco is investing considerably in the agri-food sector, thanks to government investment of 100 million euros every year”. In Morocco there is a strong demand for machinery and agricultural technology made in Italy and the challenges of the future are the rational use of water resources and renewable energy. “As Veronafiere, we were already present in the country with Medinit Expo, a group active in the building, design and marble stone,” said Giovanni Mantovani, Director General of VeronaFiere. “Given the success of the initiative, we decided to replicate the format and extend it to the agri-food, another of our key sectors. In the first edition, we hope to have 50 Italian companies, which we aim to double by 2015”. (red)
