Feb. 14 – 12 Italian startups are taking part in the first “barcamp” in the history of Wall Street. The initiative is a network of “non- conferences”, where participants decide the content of the conferences. On February 26, American venture capital investors will look into and choose whether to invest or not in Italian business projects with high growth potential in the fields of telco, Internet, life sciences and green economy. The mission, renamed UsaCamp, is promoted by ItaliaCamp and will run between New York and Washington DC February 26-March4. “Our startups will show their skills to the world of international finance – said the Deputy Minister of Economic Development, and honorary president of ItaliaCamp, Antonio Catricalà, during the presentation of the event in the monumental hall of the Presidency of Council of Ministers – giving a different image of our country.” The mission also hosts three Global Executive Seminars, one of which is organized in collaboration with the Italian Pavilion for Expo 2015, and will be dedicated to Italian products. The seminar will take place on February 28 in New York, and is the first in a series of road shows that ItaliaCamp and the Italian Pavilion will promote in 2014. The aim is to create an “itinerant hub for ideas” that will expand progressively to include the best projects from Italian universities. “It’s very important that the Italian Pavilion decided to focus on telling the stories behind Italian talents – explained Maurizio Martina, deputy undersecretary for Expo Milano 2015 – The idea is to explain to the world what is the potential of Italian talents.” “We didn’t choose New York by chance – concluded Paolo Verri, General Commissioner and Responsible for the Italian Pavilion.”
