Mar. 26 – Following the spirit of collaboration and originality, the Italian delegation was able to take the podium. Three students of the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna of Pisa participated and won a very special competition on international security, held a few days ago in the U.S. The competition begins with a hypothetical international crisis the United States must deal with alongside its competent internal agencies. Fast and accurate decisions must come from both the civil and military apparatuses; their answers must provide feasible, sustainable solutions. The “West Point security conference” competition was organized by the military academy of New York. The hypothetical international crisis was inserted in a more-complex-than-reality international scenario to make the “security game” more interesting and engaging. The three students of the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, along with four students from the University of Amsterdam, joined forces and formed the “European delegation,” which won a prize for the first time. The special spirit of cooperation and originality of their proposals led the staff of the West Point academy to award the European delegation the “H. Norman Schwarzkopf” prize, dedicated to the memory of the general who led the multinational coalition into Kuwait in the early 1990s. The “contest” was also attended by twelve delegations of students from the most prestigious universities in the U.S. and Canada.
