Mar. 27 – Myanmar and Trentino have a close relationship that is getting even closer thanks to Trentino’s new standpoint. “Trentino wants to be attentive to the new political and economic policies adopted in Myanmar after fifty years of isolation, and it encourages the country to develop its democratization process as well as strong relations with other countries,” said the Councilor for Development Cooperation of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Sara Ferrari, to the Ambassador of Myanmar in Italy, Tint Swai. The two met this morning for the Ambassador’s second day of meetings with Trentino’s institutional, cultural and economic representatives. “Our country – said the Ambassador – has embarked on a path of democratization, and the profound changes taking place have led to openings in various sectors, including education, research and economic and trade cooperation.” Currently, there are no open channels of trade and business cooperation between Trentino and Myanmar. But both parts are looking to the future, strong of the recently adopted cooperation projects. Indeed, in the past years, Trentino has collaborated with Myanmar in the development of international solidarity projects focusing on neonatal health, training of young people, and in support of the Karen, one of the most populous ethnic groups in the country.
