Apr. 11 – He creates products and services that can improve the lives of people thanks to his structures that support contemporary art, theater, entertainment and culture. Lorenzo Thione, the Italian inventor behind the search engine Bing, moved to San Francisco to turn his ideas into reality. But the young entrepreneur will be in Milan, on April 15, to talk about his experiences at the Cultural Center. The event “From Milan to the Silicon Valley … and Broadway!” is curated by Roberto Bonzio, the man behind “Italiani di Frontiera,” and is produced in collaboration with Unindustria Como, the Cultural Center of Milan and Irma Bianchi Comunicazione. Thione – an eclectic personality capable of combining entrepreneurship and artistic sensitivity – will talk about his journey as an innovator and entrepreneur in a world divided between technology, art and music. The 35 year old Como-native and “father” of Bing studied at the Politecnico in Milan, and then moved to America, where he attended University of Texas, and in 2006 co-founded and launched Powerset, a startup behind Bing, which was sold to Microsoft in 2008. Since 2010, he dedicated himself to culture: theater, non-profit organizations, computational linguistics and the online market. He launched two companies: Artify, a web channel for the promotion and dissemination of contemporary works of art; and The Social Edge, a social media network that provides services related to arts and entertainment.
