Apr. 1 – Giuseppe Adurno, cardio-anesthetist at the San Carlo Hospital of Potenza – considered one of the best hospitals in Southern Italy and in the country overall – will travel, from tomorrow until April 13, to China for an important voluntary initiative. The Hebei pediatric center of the Shijiazhuang university will indeed host Adurno for a series of activities revolving around anesthetics and resuscitation. “The center – explains Dr. Adurno – is newly built and thus very modern, but still lacks the necessary experience in neonatal cardiac surgery. Our team, which will meet at the Munich airport, is composed of two surgeons, Professor Vanini from Bergamo and Dr. Cervo del Gaslini from the Institute of Genoa, a perfusion technician, Mr. Ghislandi of Bergamo, a pediatric cardiologist, Dr. Festa of Pisa and a registered nurse expert in intensive care at the Bambino Gesù Hosptial in Rome. The international mission – concludes Adurno – is organized by ‘The Heart of Children’ directed by Prof. Vanini and follows similar initiatives in Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Latvia, which I attended as a pediatric cardio-anesthetist.” “Dr. Adurno, as well as many other colleagues in the San Carlo, is no stranger to volunteering experiences – said Giampiero Maruggi, general manager of the San Carlo Hospital in Potenza, – this further testifies to how our professionalism and skills are appreciated far beyond our borders, and also how strong and widespread is the volunteering spirit among our community. I’d like to emphasize that Dr. Adurno, in this circumstance, is taking time off from his personal leave time, making his commitment all the more meritorious.”
