Mexico City – Italian Deputy Foreign Minister Lapo Pistelli is at the head of the Italian delegation to the high-level meeting on Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC), held in Mexico City today and tomorrow. The platform brings together governments, international organizations, private sector actors and civil society. GPEDC continues to work on the aid effectiveness agenda set in Busan in December 2011. The topics discussed include: the implementation of the commitments made in Busan and progress on development effectiveness; the mobilization of financial resources in partner countries; South-South and triangular cooperation; challenges for “middle income countries”; and the creation of an effective partnership between governments, businesses and civil society to eradicate extreme poverty. On the Italian side, the aim is to bring the issue of aid effectiveness and development back into the arena of international debates. The conference will thus be a good opportunity to make a significant contribution to the post-2015 debate on the agenda for global development. (9Colonne)
