Apr. 16 – The Italian Institute of Culture in Montreal is hosting a meeting of music and words on May 3. The protagonist will be Joseph Maviglia: writer, musician and singer. His performances combine poetry, jazz, rock, and Calabria. Indeed, the Toronto-native poet and songwriter has very Italian origins. Maviglia will perform a reading of his poems and give the public a guitar and voice concerto. Maviglia’s work has enjoyed considerable success throughout North America and Europe. His poems have been published in several magazines while his latest album, “Angel in the Rain,” was released in 2010. His most notable works are the poem “Jazz Dharma” and the composition “Calabresella / Sooner or later” for the soundtrack of “The Resurrection of Tony Gitone.” During the event, Maviglia will read some of his works in Italian and English, and will perform some of his songs with musical accompaniment. Some of his poems have been translated into Italian by Francesco Loriggio and inserted in the “Anthology of Italian-Canadian literature” published in Italy in 1998 by Monteleone di Vibo Valentia.
