Umurlu – Exergy, an Italian company world leader in the development and production of Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) turbine technology and systems for the efficient generation of energy, has signed an agreement with the Turkish group Karadeniz Holding for the supply of 2 ORC plants for a total of 24 MW in the geothermal area of Umurlu, near Denizli. The two plants will be operational by 2015. The contract is an important milestone for Exergy’s Radial Outflow Turbine development, which will be installed for the first time in a facility of this magnitude. The proposed solution involves the use of two ORC pressure systems, equipped with an air cooling system to maximize energy production. Turkey, where the company has been active since 2009, is a very important market for Exergy’s geothermal and heat waste recovery projects. Currently, Exergy has the largest installed binary geothermal capacity in the country (177.2 MW) and is the ORC market leader. Exergy will take part in the most important Turkish trade fair for energy, the 20th edition of the International Energy and Environment Fair and Conference, scheduled April 24-26 in Istanbul.
