Apr. 22 – Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) turbine technology allows producing energy from previously unused geothermal sources, thus increasing energy efficiency. Exergy is an Italian company, leader in the development and production of Rankine cycle turbines and systems for efficient energy generation. Exergy recently signed an agreement with Karadeniz Holding for the supply of 2 ORC plants, for a total of 24 MW, in the geothermal area of Umurlu, near Denizli (in southwest Turkey). The two plants will be operational by 2015. “The contract was signed in February 2014 – said the company in a statement – and for us it’s an important milestone in the development of our Outflow Radial Turbines, which will be installed for the first time in a facility of this magnitude. The proposed solution involves the use of two ORC pressure systems, equipped with an air cooling system to maximize energy production.” Turkey, where the company has been active since 2009, is a very important market for Exergy’s geothermal and heat waste recovery projects. Currently, Exergy has the largest installed binary geothermal capacity in the country (177.2 MW) and is the ORC market leader. Mapek, a Turkish company based in Ankara specializing in geothermal and oil and gas, works with Exergy in commercial activities and local operations. Claudio Spadaccini, the company’s CEO, said he was “very pleased with the results achieved in Turkey, both in terms of new contracts and the system’s overall performance.” April 24-26, the company will participate in the most important Turkish fair dedicated to energy, the 20th edition of the International Energy and Environment Fair and Conference, held in Istanbul.
