May 2 – Pietro Grasso, President of the Senate, wrote of his fight against the Mafia during the course of his career as a magistrate, culminating in 2005 when Grasso became the National Anti-Mafia prosecutor. His career has been the focus of several books, including “Per non morire di Mafia” and “Lezioni di Mafia,” both published by Sperling & Kupfer. On the occasion of his visit to Tirana on May 5, the Italian Cultural Institute has invited Grasso to speak of the two books. “In 2011 Per non morire di Mafia – reads a note from the IIC Tirana – was also published in Albanian by Ombra GVG and since then we have been trying to organize a presentation with the author, who was National Prosecutor at the time.” The IIC’s Literary Thursday will move, exceptionally, to Monday – the Italian Ambassador Massimo Gaiani will preside over the event, and journalist Carlo Bollino will introduce President Grasso and his “43 years dedicated to fighting the Mafia, protecting the law, and defending citizens’ fundamental rights.”
