Mar. 3 – Massimiliano Finazzer Flory continues to bring on world stages his play, adapted from Carlo Collodi ‘s masterpiece, Pinocchio. The play was created with the Carlo Collodi National Foundation in 2013 for the Year of Italian Culture in the United States, where the company performed in 13 states in 18 shows, with great success and attention. Now, for the entire month of March, the show will be in Japan with a tour that will visit: Tokyo, Fukuoka, Sapporo, Nagoya, Nagasaki, Hiroshima, Kyoto, and Osaka. The story of Italy’s most famous wooden puppet is not entirely unknown in Japan, where children may study Collodi’s Pinocchio during their school years and those young in the 70s certainly remember “Bambino Pinocchio,” the German-Japanese animated cartoon. The story has always intrigued children and adults alike, with Benedetto Croce claiming that “the wood from which Pinocchio is made represents humanity,” while Alda Merino reflected upon the rebellious spirit of the puppet. Finazzer Flory brings this charm and complexity on stage with his great interpretation, giving voice to the main characters in the story: mastro Ciliegia, Geppetto, il Grillo parlante, la Fata Turchina, Mangiafoco, the gendarmes, the tuna, the cat and the fox, who come to life also thanks to Michela Lucenti’s choreography. The music by Nino Rota pays tribute to Federico Fellini and his dreamlike atmospheres. The show will be on tour through the collaboration of the Italian Embassy in Tokyo, the Italian Consulate in Osaka, the Italian Cultural Institute in Tokyo and the Italian Cultural Institute in Osaka.
