May 8 – The multipurpose Ro – Ro ship “Wedellsborg” embarked upon its first voyage from Porto Levante, in Polesine on the Po Delta. The ship was jointly developed by Cantieri Visentini in Porto Viro and Naos Ship and Boat Design in Trieste, where the great ship will now be refined, before entering into service on the Mediterranean, the Americas and the North Sea for Nordana Lines, a Norwegian and Danish society. The Wedellsborg is 178 meters long, 26.2 wide; it has 3 hangars accessed from the stern hatch, of a 200 ton capacity; it is equipped with two deck cranes of 40 tons; it can carry more than 11 000 tons and is the most environmentally friendly ship in the world. “This ship is a jewel in the North East and it demonstrates the ability of our entrepreneurship and our economy – said the Councillor for the mobility of Veneto, Renato Chisso – I wish to extend my congratulations to the designers, engineers, and workers who dedicated recent months to create this wonder. I am also grateful to Nordana, who believed in our work and in our businesses.”
