May 16 – Piedmont will be in New York for two days. Today and tomorrow, the region will be at the NYC Bike Expo dedicated to the world of cycling, a prelude to the Gran Fondo New York, the international amateur cycling event that will take place on Sunday. The event is entirely Italian, as it aims to bring to NYC the very best of the Italian style. Every year about 6,000 people, from different countries, sign up for the race. The race and expo also attract many spectators, and the two initiatives are an ideal vehicle to promote health, sustainability, the Italian cycling culture and international travel. In this scenario, Piedmont occupies a prominent place thanks to very rich tourist offer in terms of outdoor cycling. With more than 300 locations including mountains, plains, lakes and hills, Piedmont seems to have been molded for the activity. And it comes as no surprise that two cycling legends as Coppi and Girardengo were born here.
