May 20 – “La bambola”, “Pensiero stupendo”, “Pazza idea”, “E dimmi che non vuoi morire”… Patty Pravo’s songs are part of Italy’s cultural baggage. Pravo has sold €110 million albums in her career and is one of the most interesting icons of Italian music from the 70’s. Today, she is in Cannes with Greek director Panos Koutras, who chose Patty Pravo and her music for “Xenia,” his latest film presented yesterday evening at the Festival in the “Un Certain Regard” category. The film tells the story of sixteen-year-old Danny and eighteen-year-old Odysseus, who cross Greece in search of their father, after their mother’s death. “Patty Pravo is a great singer, a diva from the legendary Seventies, when I first fell in love with her performances in TV programs. I saw her again in Naples in 2006, and she became my version of ‘Proust’s madeleine,’ she brought me back to my childhood,” said Koutras. “Dany – the younger of the two brothers, the film’s protagonists – loves Patty Pravo because she was his mother’s idol. For him, she’s not a star but a saint with great powers. And for the movie, Patty agreed to let us use her music, and she even agreed to do a small cameo,” emphasized the director. Pravo is working on her new album and will be engaged throughout the summer in a series of concerts across Italy.
