June 12 – Reggio Emilia, birthplace of the Italian flag, is also the city of internationalization: a few days after the Economy Day organized by the Chamber of Commerce on June 4, Reggio Emilia businesses are getting ready for the “Day of internationalization.” The event is scheduled for tomorrow, and on the same day the Chamber Authority will present its reports on the USA, Mozambique, Guatemala, Colombia and Ecuador. “We will discuss labor and prospectives, but the goal is to consolidate trade relations with emerging non-European countries, or, as is the case for the US, that require specific knowledge for more effective market penetration. After 2013, when export value amounted to €8.6 billion (a record for Reggio Emilia), the first quarter of 2014 also showed positive signes (+4.3% on sales and +4 % on orders). We now aim to expand the number of countries contributing to this positive trade and seize new development opportunities our businesses aren’t still as present as they could be.” And with this in mind, the spotlight tomorrow will be Colombia, Ecuador and Guatemala, where GDP growth forecasts are above 3% for 2014, with a large margin for infrastructure development and possible trade involving clothing, food products, industrial machinery, and furniture.
