June 20 – Pordenone is a modern, bustling city, sponsoring major cultural events such as the Pordenone Book Fair and the Days of Silent Cinema. Pordenone has noble palaces, ancient buildings, and an old town full of culture and art. A few steps from the city, on the banks of the river Noncello, nature takes center stage. Pordenone is not only famous for its natural beauty, museums or palaces in Gothic style. For some years now, the Friuli city has been known for its “model” that is adopted in Italy and abroad. The model – based on the typical tools of private entrepreneurship but implemented and adapted to the purposes of local government – is stirring, interest outside national borders. Since 2005, 27 governments (Friuli, Veneto and Marche) have adopted the “model” of management control. And now the established formula prepares to land in Russia. Recently, it was presented at a conference in Moscow, and the experts present appreciated the content. This is because it is a particularly effective operational tool that allows to direct administrative activities towards the continuous improvement of performance, thanks to indicators. Its strong point is project management, an effective tool adapting and adopting adequate costs. The meeting in Moscow followed a visit to the Pordenone City Council by a Russian delegation. In February, the delegation of academics from the School of Public Management spent a day in the municipal offices to study their characteristics. Professors Vladimir Petukhov and Roman Romanov, accompanied by Prof. Luca Brusati of the University of Udine, illustrated the methods that Pordenone uses in the context of strategic and management control.
