Paris – RhOme for denCity is the sole Italian architectural design shortlisted, alongside other 19 global projects, to participate in Solar Decathlon, the ecological design competition that opens today in Versailles. After the third place earned in “MED in Italy” in 2012, the University of Roma Tre led by Chiara Tonelli is ready for a new challenge. In total, there are 600 contestants who will submit their 20 prototypes of sustainable homes. Hence the idea for the name of the project: RhOme – A home for Rome, as a symbol to rethink urban peripheries in terms of sustainability. The project provides photovoltaic solar panels integrated into the lodges, as used in sailboats; the railing produces hot water while maintaining temperatures cool in the summer; isolation is guaranteed by a “mantle” that surrounds the house, which reduces energy consumption; finally, a “current” system bring in fresh air.
