(Aug. 4) From improvisations with an Arabic sound to rumba in an innovative, original and contemporary style. And then flamenco mixed with jazz and Andalusian music. Perfumes, passion and energy: this is the music of Almoraima, a multi-ethnic group from Salento which is now preparing to make a stop at the Italian Cultural Institute in New York. To promote the concert – scheduled for September 8 – is the IIC itself, that will host the event. The band is built around guitarist Massi Almoraima, who is author of both music and lyrics. The line-up is completed by Rachele Andrioli, a young talented vocalist who has recently joined the band, Roberto Chiga Roberto (percussions), Frederick Musarò (cello), Marco Bardoscia (bass) and Rocco Nigro (accordion). The project was born in 2007 in Salento thanks to the encounter between flamenco guitarist Massi Almoraima and musicians from other musical cultures and different regions of the world (Salento, Andalusia, Camargue, the Balkans, Pakistan and India).
