(Aug. 13) The European mobile lab to help contain the spread of Ebola in West Africa is ready to leave its home at the National Institute for Infectious Diseases at the Lazzaro Spallanzani Hospital. The lab was donated earlier this month to Sierra Leona, one of the countries hit the hardest by the epidemic. The Lazio Region makes it known that “the mobile laboratory was developed within an EU Commission-funded program. It is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to deal with highly dangerous viral emergencies, and it was developed by virologists trained to deal with serious health threats in hostile environments.” The structure will analyze samples of potentially infected subjects, joining a similar lab, also donated by the Spallanzani facilities, already active in Guinea.
