Sept. 1 – “Umbria is proud to host this event of great scientific importance. The Fifteenth World Lake Conference will take stock of the international experiences and studies for the protection and enhancement of the “mirrors” of the Earth, also taking into account Umbria’s experience with the Trasimeno lake.” The Regional Councilor for the Environment, Silvano Rometti, spoke at the opening ceremony of the World Lake Conference, which will continue until September 5 in Perugia bringing together more than a thousand scholars and experts from seventy different countries. The event is the ideal forum in which to discuss management, conservation and rehabilitation of lakes, ponds and lake areas, and to examine case studies, including the Trasimeno Lake. ” Umbria is already the seat of the UNESCO World Programme Secretariat for the assessment of the state of water resources – noted Rometti – and this is a great opportunity to demonstrate to the international community the important results achieved in safeguarding and enhancing our lake and its ecosystem, guaranteeing a good quality of life for local communities. This is the result of regional policies carefully balancing between ecosystem integrity and the well-being of the residents.”
