Oslo – “Today, Europe faces a double crisis, an external and an internal one. Our continent is shaken by nationalism, populism and a feeling of alienation and distrust that comes from our citizens, who demand jobs, growth and security.” The Italian President of the Senate said in his speech at the Conference of Presidents of Parliaments of the Council of Europe in Oslo. “Social inequalities – he added – are dramatically increasing even in countries less affected by the recession, and are likely to undermine democracy on our continent. We might reach the paradox of having formally democratic societies that are not free.” (9Colonne)
