Sept. 15 – The World on the Moon has come to the Italian Cultural Institute in Budapest. Tonight at 7pm in the Giuseppe Verdi Hall, the Giovanni Paisiello 1783 interpretation of Goldoni’s libretto will take the stage. “Il mondo della luna” was written by Paisiello during his stay in St. Petersburg as a guest of Empress Catherine II, who employed him as Kapellmeister at court. His work was performed for the first time in 1783 to celebrate the opening of the new Imperial Theatre and the coronation of Catherine II.
