Bangui – The Parachute Regiment engineers taking part in the 8th EUFOR RCA mission built and installed a light metal bridge to restore circulation between two districts of Bangui, capital of the Central African Republic, divided by a roadblock for several months. Construction was carried out by the Italian Army in coordination with the Spanish special forces within EUFOR RCA. The area, located south of the Bangui airport, is one of the most sensitive zones for the presence of 20,000 displaced people, and is routinely patrolled by the EUFOR RCA. The structure, built in a couple of days by the metalworking laboratory of the Italian Army, had been expressly requested by the local communities in the Boeing and Bercail districts, primarily to facilitate the transit of agricultural products to the markets in the area.
