Nov. 10 – The University of Macerata is carrying out a study on renewable energy that may lead to improved environmental conditions in China, in terms of contaminated sludge, industrial waters and soil decontamination treatment. The Minister of the Environment and Land Protection, Gian Luca Galletti, praised the initiative during a conference on China’s environmental challenges held Friday in the University of Macerata’s Aula Magna. The event, sponsored by the China Center in collaboration with the Confucius Institute, intends to “open new horizons for students, allowing them to access global mobility, broadening their training perspectives.” This is also the recipe for success adopted by Dean Luigi Lacchè, who addressed the public at the conference, and has ensured that the University of Macerata put in place many projects to provide young students with effective tools to compete in a globalized world. The conference brought engineers, economists and lawyers to discuss pollution in China, where “for centuries the territory has been heavily exploited and industrial pollution far exceeds tolerable levels,” said the Director of the Confucius Institute, Giorgio Trentin. “China’s environmental problem – said Chunyou Yan, Chinese director of the Confucius Institute – is so complicated and complex that it cannot be easily solved. Only through targeted and coordinated interventions it may be possible to find the right key to bring the situation back at acceptable levels.”
