Nov. 19 – “Fencing and Verdicchio has always been my greatest passions: it’s an honor for me to promote in Italy and abroad this great wine, which I find surprisingly similar to myseflf in terms of character, hard work and the desire to give the most,” said the Italian fencing champion Elisa di Francisca (who won two gold medals at the London 2012 Olympics, in individual and team fencing). Di Francesca is the new face of Verdicchio aroung the world. The award-winning white wine asked the Jesole athlete to be the face of the 2015 campaign “Verdicchio: born a talent, raised a champion!” promoted by Istituto Marchigiano di tutela vini (IMT). “For the second year in a row – said the director of IMT, Alberto Mazzoni – Verdicchio confirms itself as best Italian white wine, with 61 awards. Just like in fencing, it takes years of hard training to turn a talent into a great champion. 31 companies received awards this year; one-third of the 97 that produce more than 5.000 bottles of Verdicchio. Their performance is the result of 15 years of hard work to highlight the factors that make this wine unique: strong territorial identity, great texture, minerality, versatility and elegance. We hope that this campaign will bring us luck and grant Verdicchio a part of the international records achieved by fencing champion Di Francesca.”
