Nov. 20 – For its innovative spirit and for bringing 800 trees and 14.000 plants to Milan’s skyline, the “Vertical Forest” was awarded the “International Highrise Award” (sponsored by the Museum of Architecture in Frankfurt, the City Frankfurt and DekaBank). Awarded every two years to the most beautiful and innovative building in the world, the prize went to the Vertical Forest, designed by Boeri Studio and developed by Hines Italy sgr in the Porta Nuova district of Milan. Jury President Christoph Ingenhoven commented: “the Vertical Forest is an expression of the human need for contact with nature. It’s a radical and courageous idea for the cities of the future, and it certainly represents a model for the development of high population density areas in other European countries.” For Stefano Boeri, “the Vertical Forest is a new concept of skyscraper, where trees and humans coexist. It’s the first example in the world of a tower that enriches plant and wildlife biodiversity in an urban center. I’m happy for Milan: for Expo, for architecture and for Italian culture.” (Red)
