Budapest – Chiara Vigo is the only woman in the world that still knows how to practice the ancient art of Bisso. The Bisso is a fiber produced by the largest bivalve shell in the Mediterranean Sea, the Pinna Nobilis, to anchor itself to the seabed. To retrieve the precious gold filaments, Chiara Vigo dives in the waters of Sant ‘Antioco, in Sardinia; without damaging the fiber, she collects the shells, she desalinates, cards, and spins them, obtaining a thread similar to gold and silk; finally, she weaves these threads, creating precious fabrics and embroidery. A French team is making a film on her, while in Hungary they are preparing an exhibition for next spring. Numerous pieces on her art have appeared on international publications, and academics hired her as a consultant. Vigo also participated in a textile expertise to assess the Monappello Image, the relic similar to the Shroud of Turin. (9colonne)
