New York – Further progress in our understanding of Behcet’s syndrome, a rare systemic vasculitis, comes from a research by the University of Florence published in Autoimmunity Reviews. For the first time, intestinal microbiota was sequenced. This particular set of microorganisms lives in symbiosis in the intestines of patients with the autoimmune disease. The research was strongly supported by the Associazione Italiana Malattia e Sindrome di Behòet (SIMBA non-profit organization). “This discovery – say the coordinators of the project – opens a new chapter in our understanding of the disease.” (9Colonne)
