Dec. 30 – Is there a relationship between philosophy and food, a bond that unites cuisine, aesthetic pleasure, crafts and art? These are the questions Nicola Perullo will try to answer. The Professor of Aesthetics at the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo (Cuneo) will be at the Italian Cultural Institute of Amsterdam to host a conference (organized in collaboration with Soleluna) on Friday, January 9 at 8pm, on the topic “Food, aesthetics and art. A conversation about the value of food.” Starting from his two latest publications “La cucina è arte? Filosofia della passione culinaria” (Carocci, 2013) and “Cibo Estetica e Arte, Convergenza tra filosofia, semiotica e storia” (Edizioni ETS – Pisa), Perullo will discuss the relationship between food, aesthetic pleasure, crafts and art, by drawing arguments from the philosophical world, but also bringing examples from the world of gastronomy and art. Perullo studied with Aldo Giorgio Gargani in Pisa, where he received his Bachelor, and then a Doctorate in Philosophy, and in Paris under the leadership of Jacques Derrida. He worked initially in the philosophy of language, focusing in particular on Wittgenstein and philosophers of ordinary language, and contemporary French philosophy, especially on Derrida. Subsequently, he focused on aesthetics of the 18th century, namely Vico and the question of taste. In recent years, Perullo helped set up in Italy the aesthetic of taste, within a more general approach to the relationship between aesthetics and philosophy. (Gil)
