Sept. 12 – Art, cinema, music, in a word: culture. Italy’s enormous wealth within its borders, regions and islands is a legacy that will be brought to light during the European Heritage Days with events and ad hoc initiatives. In Marseilles, the Italian Cultural Institute is organizing two open days on Saturday and Sunday, giving a chance to discover Italian art and the talent of many young artists. The Institute, among many other initiatives in the rich program, will host three exhibitions to be inaugurated on September 14. Through 14 images of photographer Luciana Majoni, visitors will discover Michelangelo Buonarroti’s favorite theme, to which he dedicated four marble sculptures, including the “Pietà.” The photo exhibition explores the restoration work in the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence, highlightin the artistic and technical evolution of the sculptural group. The second exhibition, “Restoration in Italy. Art and technology in the activity of the Higher Institute for Conservation,” is organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Heritage and Cultural Activities, presenting the activities and history of the Institute, with particular attention to interventions on stone artworks. Both exhibitions will remain open until 11 October. Until December 16, another display will retell the history of late 20th century Italian immigrants in the exhibition “Traveling – From Friuli Venezia Giulia to France,” organized with the help of the Multimedia Archives of Regional Emigration from Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
