Jan. 5 – The University of Pisa continues to make international news in the field of scientific research and medicine. The latest award came from France during the 8th Annual Conference “Micro-Nano-Bio Systems 2014,” recently held in Toulouse. Valentina Dini, researcher from the University of Pisa and dermatologist, was awarded the “Young Investigator Wound Care Award,” assigned for her work within the “SWANiCare” project. The project studies venous ulcers of the lower limbs and is coordinated by Fabio di Francesco of the Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry, and Marco Romanelli of the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine. The goal of the research, part of the Seventh Framework Program of the European Commission, is to create an independent monitoring system in patients with chronic skin ulcers through biomedical sensors.
