London – Genetic maps are becoming increasingly precise, identifying where tumors originate and determine the individual patient’s risk to develop it. This was the task for an international network of researchers, of which Laura Papi from the Department of Biomedical, Experimental and Clinical Sciences “Mario Serio” in Florence is part. The team identified new loci in DNA associated with the risk of ovarian cancer. The study was published in the latest issue of the scientific journal Nature Genetics. “We identified six new loci, the precise location of many genes within a chromosome, that confer susceptibility to the development of ovarian cancer, both in its sporadic forms and in its hereditary form, linked to mutations of the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes (predisposing carcinoma of the breast / ovary),” explains Laura Papi.
