Sofia – As part of the traditional “Building of the Year” event sponsored by the Ministry of Regional Development of Bulgaria, Devnya Cement AD, part of the Italcementi Group, has been awarded the first prize in the category “Industrial projects – renovation and expansion technology” . The winning project, “Production reconstruction and modernization of the clinker and cement plant in Devnya Cement” (aka “New Line” project), is worth a total of €170 million, and is one of the largest investment projects in the country in the last 25 years. Operating since 1998, the Italcementi Group has become the undisputed leader on the Bulgarian market in terms of cement production and export. The New Line Project began in October 2012 and was completed two years later, creating work for 4000 people and 121 companies. The new Devnya production line contributes to reducing harmful gases and dust consumption and emissions thanks to the installation of state-of-the-art technologies to protect the environment.
