June 26 – For the past four years. Ferrari has triumphed at the “Engine of the Year” Awards; and this year is no different, winning the “Best Performance Engine” and “Best engine over 4 liters” awards. The engine in question is the 4.5-liter V8 of the 458 Coupe, Spider, and Special. This particular engine had already won awards in 2011 and 2012; it didn’t win in 2013, when the Ferrari 740 hp and 6262 cm3 V12 engine for the F12berlinetta won. Ferrari has thus collected 8 wins in 4 years thanks to the jury, composed of journalists from 35 countries, who unanimously praised the sophisticated blend of refined design, power, throttle response, precision, performance, efficiency, and sound of the V8 Ferrari. Vittorio Dini, director of Ferrari’s Powertrain, was present at the awards ceremony in Stuttgart and stated that “this is a fantastic result for us at Ferrari, and it reflects our ongoing commitment to the design and development of new engines.” Like all Ferrari special series the 458 Special incorporates a series of technological innovations, and is designed for customers looking for more extreme sporting driving. The innovations related to the whole car with world premieres and patents in powertrain, aerodynamics and electronic controls. These solutions, along with excellent handling, allow the 458 Special to achieve the highest levels of performance for a Ferrari V8.
